The Thessalon First Nation community is especially fortunate to have a vast amount of resources that wildlife heavily depend on. Sadly, there are over 600 species at risk in Canada and 19 of those are in our district. Our intention is to spark interest within the community to protect what our land has to offer in order to meet our stewardship goal: To Create Stewards Out of Our Community Members to Act as Caretakers of Mother Earth.
Why do we need to protect our wildlife?
One of the biggest causes of wildlife endangerment is from human contact within the natural world. In nature everything is interconnected. As many already know, an endangered species results an indefinite domino effect on the eco-system. Every individual species of plant or wildlife (yes, even mosquitoes) play an important role in the food chain and the balance of nature. Without it, the world would be flipped upside down. As it would take an eternity to explain how each animal is significant in its own way, please watch this video on how re-introducing the wolves changed the YellowStone National Park for the better.
