Thessalon First Nation as an indigenous community have a responsibility in protecting our wildlife (awesiinh) and rural livelihoods, especially being within our own traditional territories. Indigenous people are notorious for their connection and knowledge regarding the importance of the environment and surrounding wildlife including invasive and at risk species. The first step in protecting and caring for our land is knowing what's out there and what you can do to make a difference. Learning to identify species, especially those of special concern is not only beneficial to the environment as a whole, but is also a great start into leading us as a First Nation community into being stewards and care takers of our own sacred land.
